How the Prereg service works

How do I use this preregistration service?

This site will allow you to browse and apply for preregistration vacancies in community pharmacies for the 2011 and 2012 intake. All the community pharmacies registering vacancies are members of the National Pharmacy Association.

The NPA then matches details of potential candidates and sends them via email or post to potential employers. NPA members who wish to progress your application will contact you directly. This service is free to both NPA members and preregistration trainees.

How to Apply

Applications for NPA preregistration places will be made via the Internet. We have linked up with Pharmalife who have developed a web-based method of application, which should make the whole process straightforward for you.

The website will allow you to store your applications in draft form while you work on them and once you are happy with them, then the click of a button will send them to Pharmalife who will arrange for them to be sent to the pharmacy of your choice. This should reduce the chance of applications going astray or getting buried under paper on your University referee's desk! Once your application has been received electronically, Pharmalife will send you an email to acknowledge receipt of your application.

Here's how to apply step by step:

  1. Browse the pharmacies
To browse the pharmacies, log in and click on Choose a Pharmacy in the left-hand bar. Have a look at their details, check out their websites (if they have one), keep a record of the ones that interest you.

  2. Create a curriculum vitae (CV)
This is a very factual item that asks for your education and work history, contact details, etc. The CV also includes details of your non-academic referee. You may update your CV details at any time until you submit your applications. To create or update your CV, log in and click on Curriculum Vitae in the left-hand bar. You must enter at least the basic details into your CV before you can select pharmacies and create draft applications to them.

  3. Enter your academic referee’s details
We need your academic referee's contact details early so that we can contact him/her for a reference to attach to your application. We will be contacting your referee electronically via email so please alert your referee to expect a reference request via email. To enter your academic referee’s details, log in and select Academic Referee in the left-hand bar.

  4. Select a Pharmacy
To select a pharmacy to apply to, log in and click on Choose a Pharmacy in the left-hand bar. Once you have found a pharmacy that you might like to apply to, go to that pharmacy's page and click on the Create Draft Application button at the bottom of the page. You can always delete a draft application later. You can only create draft applications if you have already entered a first draft of your CV.

  5. Create a profile
Your profile is a document you create by answering a few questions that will tell the pharmacy quite a bit about why you want to work for them and why you are the one they should employ and train. You may submit the same profile to each pharmacy or you may change it if you wish. Please note, you cannot create a profile until you have selected a pharmacy. To create a profile, log in and click on Your Applications in the left-hand bar. Click on Add in the Profile column of the Draft Applications box.

  6. Submit your applications
When you have chosen your pharmacies, created a CV, and written your profiles, you are ready to submit your applications. Once submitted they cannot be changed. To submit your applications, log in and click on Your Applications in the left-hand bar. Click on the Submit button for the pharmacy that you are ready to submit. After clicking on Submit, a small box will pop up asking you to confirm your submission.
