Change in the total number of pre-registration training places for 2011 intake

HOT OFF THE PRESS – New requirements for Criminal Record Bureau CRB checks from April 2010

Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks are a mandatory requirement in the NHS for all staff who, as part of their appointment, have regular, direct contact with patients in the course of their normal duties. There are 2 levels of CRB disclosure, Standard Disclosure and Enhanced Disclosure.

New requirements for CRB checks came into effect in April 2010. From April 2010 all those whose work involves providing care, treatment, advice, guidance, therapy or transport to children and vulnerable adults frequently, intensively, or overnight require Enhanced CRB checks. This requirement applies to those newly appointed or changing jobs from April 2010 onwards, and not to staff currently in post. Pharmacists and pre-registration trainee pharmacists are in the category of staff requiring Enhanced CRB checks. More information on these new requirements can be obtained from http://www.nhsemployers.org/RecruitmentAndRetention/Employment-checks/Employment-Check-Standards/Pages/CriminalRecordChecks.aspx
Further information on CRB checks can be obtained from the following website http://www.crb.gov.uk/

HOT OFF THE PRESS – 06 APRIL 2010

Tier 1 & Tier 2 policy changes to take effect form 06 April 2010

The BIA has recently published changes to Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the points based system: A statement of policy. The changes will take effect from 06 April 2010.

http://www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/documents/news/statement-of-policy

Tier 1 changes do not impact on those applying for pre-registration trainee pharmacist posts.

Tier 2 changes do not directly impact on those applying for pre-registration trainee pharmacist posts. However there are some changes relate to the validity of Tier 2 permits post pre-registration training.

New procedures for changes of employment for those on Tier 2 permits

The Border & Immigration Agency has made some policy changes in relation to changes to employment for those on Tier 2 permits which come into effect from 06 April 2010. Prior to this date the Tier 2 permit was specific for the employer and the post. The Tier 2 permit is still not transferable between employers. However, from 06 April 2010 it will no longer be necessary for a new application if individuals are changing jobs but remaining with the same employer. If the individual takes up a band 6 pharmacist post with the same employer after their pre-registration training the permit issued for pre-registration training can still be used (provided it is still in date). A new permit will need to be obtained if the individual moves to a new employer after their pre-registration training.

Two new pre-registration positions have arisen at West Park Hospital, Darlington for 2011.

This is an innovative joint training venture in conjunction with Lloyds Pharmacy – offering a six month placement in the Clinical Pharmacy Team of a Mental Health Trust, combined with a six month placement in community pharmacy with Lloyds Pharmacy. These posts are not advertised in the Handbook. For further information and to apply see E10 (North East and Cumbria).

HOT OFF THE PRESS – 2011 INTAKE NOW OPEN - 1st March 2010

We are now taking applications for the 2011 intake of pre-registration trainee pharmacists.

HOT OFF THE PRESS – 26 MARCH 2010

The Migration Agency Committee (MAC) published it’s third review of the Shortage Occupation List on 26 March 2010. MAC recommends that all pharmacists and pre-registration trainee pharmacists be included on the Shortage Occupation List regardless of the sector in which they work. The government will consider these new recommendations from MAC after the general election. Until this time the December 2009 Shortage Occupation List will apply. MAC will review the Shortage Occupation List again in autumn 2010.

2010 Intake

We have finished taking applications for the 2010 intake (positions beginning in August 2010). However sometimes vacancies arise outside the normal recruitment timetable and these will be advertised on the home page and emailed to those students who have registered for this service.
